Fire on the Water Huge Success

Fire on the Water Huge Success

Twenty teams of sailors, including twelve from Colorado, St. Louis, Wichita, and Omaha, joined the eight Lincoln Nebraska teams to put twenty boats on the line at the 52nd Annual Fire on the Water Classic Regatta June 15-16, 2019.  While the forecast called for winds around 2-3 mph, the wind and weather gods thought otherwise and delivered near perfect wind conditions in the 8-15 mph range all weekend, and some clouds on Saturday morning with just a few sprinkles that kept most of the motorboats away. It proved once again, that you can’t believe the forecast when it comes to wind and weather!  You’ve just got to show up and see what happens.  Racing was close with Ryan Schubert and Alanna Fernandez from Rocky Mountain Fleet #210 coming from behind to take home the trophy on the last race.  Complete results are attached.

Not only was the racing great, but the offshore activities received rave reviews. The food and drink was plentiful, and in true Nebraska fashion, dinner included smoked prime rib with plenty of side dishes, and even a birthday cake!  After dinner, everyone was treated to a Celtic Session, provided by James Rix of Wichita along with a group of local musicians. They played some nautical-themed Irish music complete with some Celtic dancing!

Thank you to all that came and all that contributed to hosting a great regatta!
