Snipe USA

US Nationals – Day 1 Report

August 24
06:45 2018
What a great day on Green Lake, Wisconsin for the first day of the US Snipe Nationals. The fleet was able to get in three races and be off the water by three o’clock to enjoy a great Wisconsin summer evening later that night.
In the racing front we saw the Florida connection was really fast as Augie Diaz was the most consistant sailor and seemed to enjoy the light wave action and strong breeze all day long. He finished with a 2, 2, 1. Chasing him around was Calfiornian Doug Hart who with his crew sailed some great legs and was right up there. The Winchester crowd was fast with class secretary Art Rousmaniere taking a race two victory.
The conditions were post card perfect we are hoping for more of this for the remainder of the event. Day two should be more challenging with higher winds forecast and yet another direction. For our race committee teams this should be interesting as yesterday alone they had pulled some 8000 plus feet of anchor line on the deepest lake in Wisconsin.
