After sailing on San Francisco Bay sailing at Whiskeytown makes for a great change of scenery.  Located in the Siskiyou mountains just west of Redding, it’s warm (shorts and t-shirts rarely seen on SF Bay) and the winds let us sit on the same side of the boat and only rarely needing to hike out.

This year there were just four Snipes racing.  That said, the racing was very exciting. It didn’t show up in the box scores, but there were times when each of us was in the lead during a race and positioning your boat to get the breeze could give you big gains.

Sherry Eldridge and I dominated the box scores, throwing out a second place finish. This was our best regatta ever sailing together and we’re looking forward to seeing if it carries forward into our summer racing.

Tom & Robert Hunt, long time Snipers from Eureka, took second place by 1 point but it wasn’t decided till the last race where they beat Curtis Moore and his crew. Curtis started sailing Snipes with his dad (now RC chair) and did a great job of staying in competition for second place all weekend. Christopher Watt sailed with his family and beat Sherry and me in race 2, so we know there’s lots of room for him to move up in the fleet.

Curtis Moore Go-Pro’ed the sailing of races 4 to 6 (race start at 35:30 into the video – there are some commercials but worth wading through them).
