It was wild and crazy for all of us out in the ocean. Even with huge waves, pouring rain and the wind picking up to 30+ knots, the RC and sailors tried their best to have a race…. but mother nature was stronger and races were postponed. All so anxious and eager to sail, but the RC had no choice but to send us in with only one bent mast and some bruised egos after several capsizes. Fortunately, we were able to get in 4 good races in the protected Intracoastal Waterway right off the LYC dock. Augie Diaz and Kathleen Tocke got the band back together and beat us all. Ernesto Rodriquez and new crew Alex Sidi were second; Peter and Connie Commette were third.

Special visitors Wingate Payne and her son, Thomas Payne were there to present the trophy in Ron Payne’s honor. Ron Payne was a beloved Snipe National Champion Sailor from Indianapolis. He and Wingate sailed together for many years in 470’s and Snipes, and their children grew up sailing at the Lauderdale Yacht Club.
