Dear US Snipe Sailor/Supporter,

We all have our reasons and passions to be a member of the Snipe Class. Yours may have been seeded by the enjoyment you get from racing on small lakes like Manawa IA, Quassapaug CT, Altoona GA or Branched Oak NE. Or perhaps your enthusiasm is fanned by the thrill of open water sites such as Biscayne Bay FL, Beverly MA, San Diego CA or Annapolis MD. The cool part is that for over 500 of your fellow US Snipe members, there is something for everyone, regardless of your sailing background or finish position.

With this in mind, I write to ask for your help in supporting the SCIRA USA Perpetual Fund which has served you and the class for three decades.

What does the Fund do? Perpetual Fund grants have helped offset travel costs for a number of juniors that enabled them to experience the competition, thrill and adventure of racing at international championships. A few of these juniors wrote us upon their return:

I recently competed in the Snipe Jr Worlds in Italy, crewing for Christian Filter from Severn Sailing Association in Annapolis MD. I was quickly embraced into the class and the feeling of intensity of sailing while each sailor remained respectful and friendly made my experience feel as if I was joining a family rather than a class.

The Snipe Jr Worlds was a once in a lifetime experience with experiences that will last a lifetime. I want to thank SCIRA USA for providing such an incredible opportunity to Andre and me, and I can’t wait for 2017.

Beyond supporting junior teams at international competitions, the Perpetual Fund also serves as the backbone of funding for class promotions, including other initiatives over the past years such as:

•    Fleet Development Grants for clinics with an outside coach
•    Subsidizing  the newsletter printing
•    Mailing of promotional items to fleet captains and events
•    Advertising in other organizations’ news letters

How can you help?  As you would expect, the reach and impact of the Perpetual Fund is limited by its size.  Additional contributions to the Perpetual Fund will enable the SCIRA US Board to provide additional support. Please consider making a donation of any amount to the Perpetual Fund. See the attached for details. SCIRA USA and the Perpetual Fund are registered as 501(c3) organizations under the US Treasury tax code which makes contributions potentially tax-deductible for the current year (your tax advisor can advise you further).

On behalf of the entire SCIRA USA class, I thank you for your devotion to Snipe sailing.
