2014 SCIRA USA Masters Championship

November 1-2, 2014

St. Petersburg Yacht Club

If it’s been a while since you sailed in Tampa Bay, you’ll find a new skyline and lots of new businesses and museums. If you’ve never been to St. Petersburg, you’re in for a treat. The city is located on the western side of beautiful Tampa Bay. St. Pete has many hotels and restaurants within walking distance of the sailing center. Jogging and biking around parks and the waterfront is popular and the city is a cultural treat with all sorts of music and art. About a block away from the SPYC is the home of the professional Florida Orchestra, the Dali Museum, and weekly stage concerts. Of course, world famous theme parks and Florida beaches are nearby. While you’re in St. Petersburg, there is no question that you can have some serious fun.

Fleet 801 has hosted previous Junior Worlds, Masters, and Women’s Worlds, and currently is a fleet on the move. If you’re going to sail anywhere, it’s hard to beat Florida in the fall. Check the weather almanac for Nov. St. Petersburg, FL, and you’ll find that the average temperature is 70 and the average wind is 11 mph. The water temperature is warm, usually the high 60s in November. Extreme weather is rare, tide and current is mild, and normal weather fronts control wind direction.

We will have great food and fun!!

We hope you are planning to come to the US Masters in beautiful St. Petersburg, FL!  This is Halloween weekend, so there will be all kinds of parties and happenings.  Remember this is a resort town, so the list of things to do is extensive:

Visitors may also be interested in that Nov. 3-9 is the Ocean Blue film festival and Conservation Summit held right downtown.  If you haven’t heard about it, here’s the link:  With 20,000 visitors coming to the film festival, it might be a good idea to get room reservations now if you haven’t already done so.

Our weather has been warmer than usual (mostly 80’s and low 90’s) so the water is warm!  Most of the big fronts have not been making it to Florida yet, so winds have been generally 5-10 from the N and NE for a couple weeks with a few days of 10-12.

The SPYC is planning lots of good food and fun, so come meet your friends, check out the town, and enjoy a great Snipe tradition.

We need to plan for this busy weekend, so please register or let us know you’re coming!!
