SNIPE CLASS WINTER SAILING CIRCUIT STARTS MONDAY MARCH 14 IN CLEARWATER

The annual migration of the Snipes, that is the Snipe Sailboat Class, is about to start. And what a frenzy it is. Enough one design dinghy racing for almost anyone; 5 regattas at 3 different venues, 23 races scheduled over the 2 week period. This migration has been going on for a long time and that is a testament to the enjoyment and value all the participants derive from the ‘Winter Circuit’. When they get back home, not only are they well tanned, but they are way ahead of their club contemporaries with training for the new year’s sailing season.

The ‘Circuit’ starts Monday March 14 in Clearwater FLA with the start of the 73rd Snipe Midwinter Championships. Yes 73 years, and the Clearwater YC is celebrating their 100th anniversary! 9 races over 3 days will be sailed in the Gulf of Mexico off Clearwater Beach. After the Midwinters the flock takes a day to migrate to Miami and the infamous Don Q Rum Keg Regatta at the Coconut Grove Sailing Club; 5 races on beautiful Biscayne Bay. Then, as the migration is not limited by political bounds, the flock takes off for Nassau in the beautiful Bahamas for a week of sailing and relaxation with 8 races in 2 regattas. You can do some of it or all of it. The flock is a mixture of Snipe sailors from many nations and skill levels, from people working up the learning curve to those at or near the top. You get a lot of boat time and learn a lot sailing against some of the best one design dinghy competition the World has to offer.

Daily updates will be posted on the USA Snipe Class web site at snipeus.org and our Facebook page ‘usa snipe sailboat class’.
