2009 Nationals – Diaz/Tocke Win Crosby

June 23
21:41 2009

Day two of the Crosby Qualification Series was a frustrating non event. Despite the 100+ temps on land the sea breeze could not overcome the strong westerly flow. With the westerly appearing to be stable and adequate the fleet went out on the water mid afternoont to try to start the third Crosby race. The conditions became more unsettled between the westerly and the sea breeze and two attempted starts did not work out. Then thunderstorms came rolling down from the northeast and the fleet was sent in reaching the harbor just as the storm hit. Three boats turned over in the channel but otherwise everybody was OK.

Augie and Kathleen won the Crosby with a 2/1 and Ernestreo Rodriguez/Megan Place were second with a 1/4. The balance of the top 5 were Lee Griffith, George Szabo, and Andy Pimental. All scroes are posted on the PYC web site which can be reaqched by clicking on the Beach Snipe at the bottom of the Home Page.

The Fleet now splits into the Heinzerling Championship Series and the Wells Consolation Series. The top 33 teams will complete in the Champoionship Series and the remaining 14 teams will compete in the Consolation Series.

The skies are clear now, winds off shore are very light and the temp is in the high 70’s. Conditions are such that a good sea breeze can be hoped for.

Everyone is having a great time despite the temps. The club has great facilities and its members are most helpful and friendly. With the protected sailing venue just a short distance from the harbor, all a great combination for a GREAT national regatta.

More news tonight.
